PickleBall FAQs

Pickleball FAQs for Beginners

What is pickleball?

Pickleball blends tennis, badminton, and table tennis on a smaller court using a perforated plastic ball. It’s easy to learn and great for all ages.

Do I need experience to start?

No experience needed. Most beginners get the hang of it in one session, and players are happy to help you learn.

What equipment do I need?
  • A paddle
  • A pickleball (we supply balls)
  • Non-marking court shoes

We usually have loaner paddles so you can try before you buy.

How do you keep games fair?

We use a signup board to rotate players and balance skill levels, so everyone gets equal court time.

How many courts do you have?

We have four courts, so multiple games run at once with minimal waiting.

Do I need a partner?

No partner needed. Add your name to the board and we’ll match you—great way to meet people.

How does scoring work?

Only the serving team scores. Standard games go to 11, win by 2. Call the score as server score – receiver score – server number (1 or 2).

What is the kitchen (non-volley zone)?

The kitchen is the 7-ft zone by the net. You may step in it, but you cannot volley while any part of you touches the kitchen.

Where do I serve from?
  • First serve starts on the right.
  • Serve diagonally across court.
  • After winning a point, the server switches sides.

New? Ask your court—someone will guide you.

What should I wear?

Athletic clothing and non-marking court shoes. Bring water; play is quick and you’ll sweat!

Are there beginner lessons or clinics?

Yes. Check our schedule for starter clinics and guided play—rules, safety, and basic strategy included.

Is it competitive or social?

Both! Many play for fun and fitness; others join drills and leagues. Choose your vibe.

Can I bring friends or family?

Absolutely—pickleball is accessible for all ages and skill levels.

Any safety tips?
  • Warm up and hydrate.
  • Call “ball on!” if a stray ball rolls in.
  • Watch your footwork near the kitchen to avoid trips.
How do I get more involved?

Join socials, clinics, and volunteer days. Ask about leagues and ladders when you’re ready.
